TEAMWORK: INTERPERSONAL INFLUENCE

Teamwork is becoming more and more important in the way work is being accomplished. Organizations are increasingly structuring work along the lines of individual contributors working in teams. Because of the proliferation of teams, either permanent or temporary, the quality of teamwork found in an organization will set limits for what the organization can achieve.
Twelve Angry Men

This workshop deals specifically with team dynamics. Depending on the nature of the interpersonal interaction on the teams a specific film case study may be appropriate. The films used with this workshop are: Broadcast News; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; or Twelve Angry Men.

This workshop builds on the research Prism originally conducted for its clients in the area of influencing within a matrix structure. Many individuals are expected to lead without the formal authority afforded by traditional hierarchical relationships. Effective project leaders were studied to uncover how they successfully acquired and used their power over the life of their projects.

The framework that evolved from this research has been found to be useful for both team leaders and team members. Establishing credibility, helping others, and building relationships are all interrelated with what Rosabeth Moss Kantor described as "building coalitions."

Effective teamwork also requires action. Professionals, who have worked on many teams and have the luxury of selecting their teammates, want to work with those who are predisposed to making things happen. Taking action and providing value are critical to team success.

What is important to recognize within the dynamics of teams is the ongoing requirement of all team members to act in ways to maintain, and enhance, personal credibility. As in all of our training, the emphasis is on experiential learning and practical "do's" and" don'ts" that build effective teamwork, and organizational success.
